1893 wild west story (in Gerrman)

The Winnetou books were wildly popular in Germany and the Netherlands (in Dutch translation, obviously) from 1893 until well in the 1960s. This is the very first, in which the Hero meets his Indian soulmate and later blood brother, the Young Apache chief Winnetou. At first he is misunderstood, taken for a thief and a liar, but through his upstanding behaviour and his brave deeds he wins the respect of his former foes. Duels with cruel Indian Chiefs - not Apaches but the nasty nasty Kiowa - freeing captured comrades, hunting big game... An old-fashioned, rather formulaic hero story in which the hero cannot do wrong, baddies are blatantly obvious bad, goodies are rather sickeningly good...I wouldn't think anyone who did not read this as a kid would enjoy it, much. But for us who did devour the series, and played it out on the streets with our friends, this is like coming back to a bit of our youth!

Keep reding the books over and over again and they never loose their appeal. Karl may was a very good author that knew how to write.

Be aware - book in German not English

Nothing to say about the book itself, just to make it clear for everyone that this book (in fact all three volumes) is in German and not English.
